3M™ Di-Noc™ vs 3M™ Series 1080 Carbon Fibre Vinyl - what's the difference?

There are many differences between 3M™ Di-Noc™ and 3M™ Series 1080 Carbon Fibre Vinyl the most obvious of which is the look of the vinyl.  The table below compares the features of each of the two vinyls to help you decide which is best suited to your particular application.

3M™ carbon fibre vinyl is available to purchase on our website.

Feature 3M™ Di-Noc™ 3M™ Series 1080
Look Very detailed textured pattern with a matt finish. Each carbon weave has approximately 8 individual lines in the vinyl. Looks very similar to true dry carbon fibre. Gloss finish with slight bump for each carbon weave, not as detailed as Di-Noc close up but looks very similar to clear coated carbon fibre when seen from regular viewing distance.
Air Release Channels Yes Yes
Heating / Stretching / Curves Can be heated and stretched to form around curves. The limits of this vinyl can be found when wrapping a full vehicle. Wing mirrors are possible but can be difficult to achieve, complex curves such as full bumpers can be acheived but more skill is required and the longevity of the wrap may be affected the more the limits of the vinyl are pushed. Complex curves can be achieved as this is a vehicle specific wrapping vinyl. Requires less heat than the Di-Noc™ to become flexible.
Maximum Width 122cm / 4 foot. 152cm / 5 foot.
Intended Purpose Architectural (walls, tables, doors etc.) but also marketed by 3M™ for use on both interior and exterior of vehicles. Vehicle specific wrapping vinyl.
Primer Required Primer WP-3000 recommended by 3M for use at the edges, overlaps and in deep recesses. No.

Clear Coat / Lacquer Di-Noc™ can be lacquered. See our article Can I clear coat / Lacquer 3M Di-No™c carbon fibre vinyl for more information. Already has a gloss look, so not necessary.
Removal For both products heat to soften the adhesive and remove gently by pulling back at an angle. Some adhesive residue may remain which can easily be removed with a vinyl adhesive removal agent. Automotive tar and glue remover but this will take longer and much more effort.
